Shift Bristol Practical Sustainability Course

Each year I head to Bristol to teach the Soil module of Shift Bristol’s Practical Sustainability Course. The course is a veritable cornucopia of all things sustainable from a foundation in Ecology and Soil, to practical skills like low-impact building and Organic Horticulture. They visit many inspiring people and projects during the one year course, including the likes of Ben Law, Charles Dowding, Ragmans Lane Farm and Lammas. The course is 2.5 days a week for a single academic year, making it accessible to those who need to work. Accessibilty is core to the Shift Bristol team, and their low, flexible feesa re testament to this, as is the part-time structure. Led by the brilliant and experienced permaculture teacher, Sarah Pugh, who trained with Patrick Whitefield before starting her own courses in Bristol, the course delves into a broad range of practical topics to enable students to get informed and skill-up for a sustainable future.
